Persepolis
Climb the Great Stairway, pass the guardian bulls of Xerxes’ Gate of All Nations, follow the carved procession of twenty-three nations on the Apadana’s stairs and walk among the columns of the audience hall.
The sizes of the terrace, the stairway, the Gate and the Apadana come from published figures; where each building stands, which columns stand and the shapes of the stairs are approximate, and the reliefs are our own simplified outlines; the stone is drawn in code, not photographed. Gold markers open notes on what you see, including what is measured, what is approximate and what is unknown. Objects in the cases are renditions, not replicas.
